A Micro level entrepreneur proves that Disability is not Inability

Swapna is a differently-abled person and her mobility is difficult. But being a high spirited woman, she completed her graduate in economics. Sornammal Educational Trust (SET) provided a platform to translate her ambition and skills into reality by encouraging her to become a member of SHG. Trust also encouraged her in to artificial jewels making training, so that she can start a micro level enterprise of her own. She was referred to a Training unit at Bangalore where she quickly learned the art of artificial jewels making and was a Gold medallist in the training.

Once back in Chennai, she started making the artificial jewels. The Trust arranged bank loans to the group and Swapna got the fuel she needed. The Trust also arranged marketing tie up of the jewels at various stalls and exhibitions organized by TNWDC, NABARD and SET. She also has expertise in the art of making paper bags, paper jewels, door mat, terracotta etc. Today, Swapna has employed two persons and pays salaries of INR 6000 each per month. Her monthly income ranges from INR 25000 to INR 40,000. Swapna’s ambition is to set-up a showroom to expand the business of artificial jewels & other products and transform to a medium level entrepreneur.

She was given “Best Entrepreneur award” on 15th August 2014 by Mrs. Latha Pandiarajan, MD, Varam Capital Pvt. Ltd.,
